This December, Marianne Newman Gallery presents Christmas Mix, a group exhibition featuring a variety of affordable artworks that celebrate The Spirit of Australia. With over 50 works from gallery and invited artists the subject matter portrayed is inherently Australian. Each artist's unique background has inspired an individual response to the theme, creating artworks that are of high artistic quality and focused on ideas and imagery with which viewers can easily connect.
The exhibited works are from a range of genres with several mediums including acrylic, oil, watercolour, etching, collagraph and mixed media. From strong graphic woodcut images of Sydney Harbour, to softly painted landscapes and suburbia, the palettes are a diverse mix of bold and soothing colours as well as black and white. Visual stimulation is offered with the abstract and representational, with familiar Australian fauna as well as contrasting aspects of barren inland and coastal scape.
Iconic artist, Arthur Boyd once said of his own work "I stress the uniqueness of the Australian landscape and its metaphysical and mythic content". Australia, whether through the landscape or its people, is a continuous source of inspiration, rich in ideas and character, Christmas Mix has this quality.
The Christmas Mix is sure to please a wide audience as we celebrate the beauty and culture of Australia and the season of giving with all works priced under $395 each.
Christmas Mix is on show at Marianne Newman Gallery, 1 Albany Street, Crows Nest, from December 5th to December 20th 2008. Gallery Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 10am - 5pm
